Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center: Collecting more than 150 billion VND in 2020

Ngày 13/1, tại Hà Nội, Trung tâm Bảo vệ quyền tác giả âm nhạc Việt Nam VCPMC tổ chức lễ tổng kết hoạt động năm 2020. Mặc dù phải chịu ảnh hưởng của dịch Covid-19 nhưng trong năm 2020 số tiền sử dụng quyền tác giả âm nhạc đã thu được hơn 150 tỷ đồng, tăng 12 % so với năm 2019.

This situation persists and affects, negatively affects the perception of many users, especially large business systems, causing damage to the legitimate and legitimate interests of the authors.
In the field of performing arts, in addition to the reason that the epidemic has paralyzed performance activities for many months, many performance organizers often find ways to avoid or even openly challenge and fail to fulfill their obligations. cases of applying for permission, paying for the use of copyright, or taking advantage of the principle of agreement to delay the payment of royalties, resulting in copyright infringement occurring quite often in recent years, typically in shows are large-scale and have high revenue and ticket prices.
In the field of radio and television, in order to overcome the situation that many Radio and Television Stations have not yet reached agreement with VCPMC on the royalties, the method of calculating the royalties by post or usage. In addition, VCPMC has cooperated with Aibiz Company to provide frequency or frequency measurement tools, thanks to which most of the stations have agreed with the method proposed by VCPMC.
However, there are still some Radio - Television units, especially pay TV units, that have used the excuse of not reaching an agreement on royalties so that up to now they have not or have not paid royalties. caused great damage to copyright holders during the past time.
In the field of file - midi karaoke, some businesses in this field have difficulty in consuming products due to changes in technology, so there is a situation of delayed payment, outstanding debt or payable. prior to the deadline. Many cases have had to go to court for dispute resolution and through mediation sessions to resolve contract disputes about late payment.

According to the joint report, in 2020 the amount of music copyright usage collected is more than 150 billion VND, an increase of 12% compared to 2019. Also in 2020, VCPMC has made 4 distributions and payments to the copyright holders in the amount of more than 107 billion VND.
